Located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Southcoast Behavioral Health is a 192-bed psychiatric hospital that provides inpatient treatment for geriatrics with mental health diagnoses.

At Southcoast Behavioral Health, our comprehensive geriatric treatment services are designed especially for older adults who are struggling with behavioral health concerns. This standalone inpatient unit is staffed by experienced medical and mental health professionals who understand the unique needs of seniors in the treatment setting. We are pleased to offer support to older adults who are struggling with mental health conditions such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Psychosis
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Homicidal ideation

  • Neurocognitive disorders with behavioral disturbances

Each patient’s experience within our geriatric unit will be unique to their needs, but the average length of stay is between five and seven days. During this time, patients will attend individual therapy, as-needed family therapy, and group therapy on various psychoeducational topics related to the needs of participants.

All therapeutic services are delivered with a multifaceted approach, and include many different treatment modalities, such as:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Reminiscence therapy
  • Activity therapy
  • Medication management
  • Detox services (non-medical)
